A court in Dhaka on Wednesday put Dr Kazi Ertaza Hassan, editor and publisher of the Daily Vorer Pata, on a day remand in a case filed over occupying land through forgery.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain passed the order after police had produced him before the court, seeking a two-day remand.

Earlier on Tuesday night, a team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested him from his office in capital Dhaka’s Gulshan-2 area.

Abu Yousuf, additional police superintendent (Legal and Media) of the PBI headquarters, had told Jago News that Saiful Islam, brother of Ashiyan Group Chairman Nazrul Islam, filed the case with Khilkhet Police Station.

The three other accused of the case are Abu Yousuf Abdullah, Riazul Alam and Selim Munshi, he added.

According to the case statement, Ertaza and his accomplices committed fraud by purchasing land from Ashiyan Group for Northern University Bangladesh. They have been accused of fraudulently completing the registry without paying the full price of the land.
