8 get life imprisonment in schoolboy Mehedi murder case

A Dhaka court has convicted and sentenced eight people to life imprisonment in a case lodged over the murder of Pallabi schoolboy Mehedi Hasan, 15, in 2014.

The convicts are- Foysal, Ashik, Russel, Oli, Saddam, Rabbi alias Chotu, Imran and Rashid.

Dhaka 7th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Tehsin Iftekher on Tuesday pronounced the judgment in presence of all the convicts and sent them to jail with conviction warrant. The court also fined them Taka 50 thousand each.

According to the case documents, Oli and his friends took Mehedi to a building on September 30, 2014, and beat him indiscriminately as he opposed their drug trading in the locality. Mehedi's family rushed him to Mirpur Islami Bank Hospital in critical condition, from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The attending doctors there declared Mehedi dead.

Mehedi's father filed the case with Pallabi Police Station on October 1, 2014. Police on June 12, 2017, filed charge-sheet against 10. The court on April 1, 2019, framed charges in the case and came up with its judgment today after examining 12 out of 25 witnesses in the case.
