Khandker Golam appointed as new DMP commissioner
Police Staff College Rector Additional Inspector General Khandker Golam Faruq has been appointed as new commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The Home Ministry’s Public Security Division Police-1 subdivision issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.
He began his professional career as a member of Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) on 20 January 1991. He is a member of the 12th BCS batch. He started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at 4-APBN Bogra. After serving there, he joined CMP Chattogram.
Khandker Golam served as Additional SP at the districts of Khulna and Satkhira. After getting promoted as Police Super, his first posting place was Police Headquarters as AIG Confidential.
He was appointed as Superintendent of Police (SP) in numerous districts such as Thakurgaon, Kishoreganj, Jhalokathi, Jamalpur, and Mymensingh.
As Additional DIG, he worked at DMP, Dhaka and Dhaka Range Police. Afterwards, He worked as Additional Commissioner (Traffic) at DMP. He also served as DIG of Rangpur Range Police and Chattogram Range Police. Later on he was appointed as Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy, Sardah, Rajshahi.
It is to be noted that, incumbent DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam will go on retirement on October 30.
On Wednesday, the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry issued a gazette notification on the retirement of Shafiqul Islam.
According to the notification, Shafiqul, also an additional inspector general of police, will be on post-retirement leave from October 30 to October 29 next year.
He will be entitled to retirement and post-retirement leave benefits as per the government rules.
He took over as the 34th commissioner of the DMP on September 7, 2019. His tenure ended last year, but it was extended for another year.
He began his career as an ASP in the 8th BCS cadre on December 20, 1989.
