Chhatra Odhikar Parishad's Akter, Akram remanded

Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad leaders Akter Hossain and Akram Hossain have been put on a-day remand in a case filed by a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Akter and Akram are president and general secretary of Dhaka University unit Chhatra Odhikar Parishad respectively.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order after a hearing on Thursday.

The court also rejected a plea to remand 22 other accused in the lawsuit and ordered to send them to jail.

The remand hearing of another case filed against the 24 was scheduled to be held today but it was deferred to October 25 as the investigation officer is currently outside Dhaka, said defense lawyer Khademul Islam.

Earlier on October 7, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men allegedly attacked a rally organized by Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad on the Dhaka University campus to mark the third death anniversary of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

They also allegedly vandalized chairs and mikes of the program and burned banner-festoon as well as attacked them again at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

At that time, police in association with the Chhatra League detained 24 leaders and activists of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad.

Later, two central leaders of Chhatra League - Nazim Uddin and Aminur Rahman - lodged two separate cases against them with Shahbagh Police Station accusing them of attacking BCL leaders and activists.

After the case filing, they were arrested by police and sent to jail following a court order.
