Three get death, 6 life in Madaripur murder case

A court in Madaripur has sentenced three people to death and six others to life term imprisonment for shooting and hacking a man to death in broad daylight.

The condemned convicts are Mazharul Islam Maznu, a resident of North Shirkhara village, and Masim Sheikh and Jashim Sheikh, residents of West Math village in Sadar upazila while the lifers are Hossain Hawlader, and Manzur Ali of Char Dhurail village, Saidur Hawlader and Surja Matubbar of Ghunsi village, Foyez Sheikh of West Math village and Sujali Matubbar of Shirkhara village in the same upazila.

Madaripur Additional Session Judge Court judge Lailatul Fedous pronounced the verdict. The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each and acquitted five other accused from charges as they were found not guilty.

The court public prosecutor Siddiqur Rahman Singh said Abdur Razzaque, the brother of Shirkhara union parishad chairman Mojibor Hawlader, was shot and hacked to death on October 19, 2003, over a dispute around election.

Later, his wife Selina Begum lodged a case in this connection.
