None of those involved in attacks on police boxes and cops at Mirpur in capital Dhaka are rickshaw drivers, said Additional Police Commissioner (Detective Branch) of DMP Mohammad Harun Or Rashid. 

The planned attack has been carried out to weaken the stamina police force and leave the government in trouble, he said.

The DB chief made the disclosure in a press briefing on Saturday afternoon following the arrest of nine people in connection with the incident.

He said the attackers were helped by some 'big brothers' of them in the incident and several of them have already been identified and will be brought to justice soon.

However, Harun Or Rashid did not disclose the identities of the 'big brothers' and their affiliation with any political parties.

Five traffic police boxes were attacked in Mirpur area on Friday morning protesting the drives to stop the movement of the battery-run rickshaws, leaving two cops injured.

Later, police lodged a case in this connection.

However, the apprehended nine are Md Jony Islam, Md Russel Mia, Suruj, Md Akter, Shamser Uddin, Md Rony, Md Kalim, Masud Rana and Md Sam.

In primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted their involvement in the incident, said police.
