'BCL' attacks Chhatra Odhikar Parishad rally in DU

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men have allegedly attacked a rally of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad on the Dhaka University campus.

They also allegedly vandalized chairs and mikes of the program and burned banner-festoon.

The rally was organized in front of Raju Memorial Sculpture on Friday afternoon to mark the third death anniversary of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

Chhatra Odhikar Parishad claimed its several leaders and activists received injuries in the attack.

Of them, one is Zahid Ahsan, the literature affairs secretary of the organization's DU unit.

BCL central committee vice president M M Mahin Uddin, joint general secretary Mahbub Khan, organizing secretary Nazim Uddin, private university affairs secretary Al Amin Rahman, deputy office secretaries Shimul Khan and Abdur Rahim, DU Zahurul Haque unit BCL president Kamal Uddin Rana and general secretary Rubel Hossain were seen leading the attack.

Chhatra League claimed that its central organizing secretary Nazim Uddin was hurt in the attack.

However, BCL central committee joint general secretary Mahbub Khan said they (Chhatra Odhikar Parishad leaders and activists) were holding the program along with outsiders and fundamentalists on the campus.

"When we asked them whether they are university students, they attacked us instead of answering. Later, university's general students prevented them," he said.

Abrar Fahad

Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department and a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET, was mercilessly beaten to death by the leaders and activists of the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at the night of October 6, 2019, over a Facebook post where he criticized some deals between Bangladesh and India.
