Engineers working to restore power transmission
Engineers of both the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) are working to restore electricity transmission across the country.
BPDB Director (Public Relations) Shameem Hasan informed that the National Power Transmission grid failed at noon, causing a blackout across the country's major parts, except some parts of the north.
He said that engineers of both BPDB and PGCB were trying their best to restore electricity transmission.
"It's a national grid failure. People of many areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet and Cumilla areas are not getting electricity since 2:05 pm today," Hasan said.
According to officials of the Bangladesh Power Development Board, the national grid tripped from about 2 pm in the eastern part of the country.
Following the grid failure, electricity supply went off in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Barisal and Mymensingh divisions, they said.
The power supply is yet to be restored in the region. The engineers concerned predict that the situation will become normal by this evening.
