Housewife murder after rape: 9 get life

A court in Jhenaidah district on Tuesday convicted nine people and sentenced them to life-term imprisonment for the murder of a housewife after rape.

The lifers are Rasul, Shariful Islam, Amirul Islam, Golam Rasul, Abdul Aziz, Azizur Rahman, Zahidul Islam, Badsha Mia, and Baten, residents of Bishaykhali area in Sadar upazila. Of them, Shariful and Amirul are on the run.

The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Jhenaidah handed down the verdict. The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each.

It was learned from the copy of the verdict that a few people gang-raped Renu Begum, the wife of Arab Ali, a resident of Bishaykhali village, at a bamboo cluster throughout the night in March of 2011. Later, they murdered the woman and escaped.

On the following day, the victim's husband filed a case against 16 people in this connection.

The public prosecutor at the tribunal advocate Bazlur Rahman told Jago News that the judge also asked the law enforcers to arrest the two fugitives.
