By-polls to Sajeda’s Faridpur-2 on Nov 5

The by-polls to the Faridpur-2 constituency that fell vacant following the death of Awami League presidium member and deputy leader of the parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury will be held on November 5.

Election Commission Secretary Md Humayun Kabir announced the election schedule at the EC secretariat on Monday.

As per the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is October 10 while the date for scrutinising those is October 12 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is October 19.

The voting in the by-election will be held in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, also a freedom fighter, died at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at 11:40pm on September 11.

The EC has a constitutional obligation to complete the by-polls within 90 days after it fell vacant.
