Language hero Ranesh Maitra passes away

Language movement veteran and renowned journalist Ranesh Maitra has passed away. He was 90. 

He died while undergoing treatment at Popular Hospital in the capital early Monday.

He left behind his wife, two sons, three daughters and many well-wishers to mourn his death.

He was the founder of Pabna Press Club. He was also one of the founders of Chhatra Union and National Awami Party. 

Ranesh Maitra was awarded country’s second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2018 for his contribution in journalism.

He was born on October 4, 1933 at his maternal house at Nahata village in Rajshahi. His father Ramesh Maitra was an elementary school teacher. He got his matriculation certificate from Gopal Chandra Institution (GCI) in 1950. Later, he completed his IA in 1955 and BA in 1959 from Govt. Edward College in Pabna.
