BCL leader dies after 'being beaten up by chairman'

A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has died after being beaten up allegedly by the Naldanga upazila chairman in Natore district.

Deceased Jamiul Islam Jibon, 20, was the son of Md Farhad Hossain, a resident of Ramsha Kazipur in the upazila.

It was learned that Naldanga upazila chairman Asaduzzaman Asad called Jibon and his father at Amtali Bazar on Monday over a Facebook post.

Later, they locked into an altercation and at one stage, Asad and his associates allegedly beat up them, leaving them injured.

They were first taken to Natore Sadar Hospital and later, shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where Jibon succumbed to his injuries around 3 pm on Friday.

The facility's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) chief Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal confirmed the death.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, the BCL leader's mother lodged a case with Naldanga Police Station against the chairman and seven others in this connection.

However, chairman Asad could not be reached for comment in this regard.
