4 killed as covered van runs them over in Chattogram

Four people were killed and 10 others including two police members injured after a covered van ran them over on Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Sonapahar area in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram around 11:30pm on Wednesday. 

The deceased were identified as Mehedi Hasan, 22, son of Md Harun, Sumon, 28, son of Shamsuddin, Sheikh Farid, 30 and Abul Kahsem. All of them were the inhabitants of different villages in Mirsharai upazila.

Of the injured, four were identified as Md Mostofa, 45, Assistant Sub Inspector of Jorarganj Police Station, Constable Abdul Awal, Rafiq, 25 and Sheikh Ahmmmed, 45. Of them, Mostofa is in critical condition. 

Police and locals said, a Chattogram-bound bus of Jonaki Paribahan hit a lorry in the area. Hearing the news, a team of highway police rushed to the spot and was talking beside the road. Local people and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers were also there. At that time, a speeding covered van ran them over from behind, leaving four dead on the spot and injured 10 others.

Kamrul Hossain, Sub Inspector of Jorarganj Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
