Akbar Ali Khan buried at Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard
Former advisor to the caretaker government and renowned economist Akbar Ali Khan has been buried at the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard at Mirpur in the capital of Dhaka.
He was laid to rest around 3:05 pm on Friday in the presence of his family members and relatives.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after the Jummah prayer and a guard of honor given to him there.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, among others, took part in the namaz-e-janaza.
Earlier, Akbar Ali Khan passed away on Thursday night. He, 78, had been suffering from various old age complications.
Born in 1944 in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria district, he obtained honors and master's degree in History from Dhaka University and later, achieved master's degree and PhD in Economics from Queen’s University in Canada.
He joined the Civil Service of Pakistan in 1967. A military court of the occupation forces then sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in absentia for actively working with the provisional government of Bangladesh during the Liberation War 1971.
Later, he served as finance secretary, cabinet secretary of the Bangladesh government, and alternative executive director of the World Bank. He also worked as a teacher at different universities.
