Four held for extortion in guise of third gender

Police arrested four people from Uttara area in the capital of Dhaka on Saturday for allegedly extorting in public transport in the guise of the third gender.

The real identities of the arrestees could not be known yet but they use pseudonyms Moushumi, 32, Anika, 19, Tuly, 24, and Duly, 25, respectively.

Uttara West Police Station officer in-charge Mohammad Mohsin confirmed the matter to Jago News this evening.

He said the accused pretending to be third gender demanded Tk 2000 extortion from Ziaul Haque, the manager of 'Ena Paribahan' bus counter in front of BNS Tower at Sector-7 this morning.

They misbehaved with the waiting passengers there and took Tk 1,010 from Ziaul's pocket when he refused to pay the money, the OC said, adding that being informed by the victim, police went to the spot and apprehended the accused.

Ziaul Haque, later, filed a case with Uttara West Police Station in this connection under the Speedy Trial Act, he said.

He also said the four accused have long been extorting in public transport in Uttara area of capital Dhaka in the guise of the third gender but actually, they are men.

They have been creating chaos at bus counters and on vehicles and behaving with the passengers obscenely, OC Moshin said.
