519 people killed in 458 road accidents in August: RSF

At least 519 people were killed and 961 others injured in 458 road accidents across the country in August this year.

Among the deceased, 64 were women and 69 were children.

The month saw the highest number of accidents and fatalities in Dhaka Division.

Road Safety Foundation (RSF), a non-government organization, made a report in this regard. 

A press release singed by the organization’s Executive Director Saidur Rahman confirmed this on Saturday.

RSF made the report based on reports published in nine national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.

A total of 172 people were also killed in 183 motorcycle accidents, which accounted for 33.14 percent of the total deaths, the press release added.

Some 109 pedestrians and 94 drivers and helpers died in accidents during this period.

In July, at least 739 people were killed in road accidents.
