Shamsul Haque Tuku takes oath as deputy speaker

Former State Minister for Home Affairs and ruling party lawmaker from Pabna-1 Shamsul Haque Tuku has taken oath as the deputy speaker of the National Parliament.

President Abdul Hamid administered the oath-taking ceremony in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday night.

Earlier, Tuku was elected deputy speaker by a voice vote at the 19th session of the 11th Parliament today.

The deputy speaker post of Parliament fell vacant after the demise of Fazle Rabbi Miah on July 22 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City of the United States.

Shamsul Haque Tuku is, however, the current president of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of home affairs.
