Verdict against GK Shamim in arms case on Sept 25

A court in Dhaka on Sunday fixed September 25 to deliver its verdict against Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim and his seven bodyguards in an arms case filed with Gulshan Police Station.

Seven other accused are Md Zahidul Islam, Md Shahidul Islam, Md Kamal Hossain, Md Samsad Hossain, Md Aminul Islam, Md Delwar Hossain, and Md Murad Hossain.

Dhaka's Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam set the date after the completion of arguments in the case.

Assistant public prosecutor (APP) Salahuddin Hawlader confirmed the matter.

News agency UNB reported that GK Shamim, who was known as an influential contractor in Sabujbagh, Basabo, and Motijheel areas of the capital, was arrested on September 20 last year.

Rapid Action Battalion members seized illegal firearms and Fixed Deposit Receipts worth Tk 165 crore, Tk 1.8 crore in cash and foreign currencies from his house and office at Niketan.

The elite force filed three cases – one under narcotics control, one under money-laundering prevention, and the other under arms acts – against Shamim with Gulshan Police Station on September 21.
