4 killed as truck runs over auto-rickshaw in Cox’s Bazar

Four people were killed and another was injured after a truck ran over a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Hijlia area in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday morning. 

Of the deceased, three were identified as Salima Khatun, 40, wife of Joynal Islam, Anwarul Islam, 25, son of late Gura Miah and Bitu Dhar, 51, son of Monindra Dhar. 

The injured is Habibullah, 30, son of Nurul Alam. 

Inspector Saiful Alam, In-charge of Shahpori highway police, confirmed the matter to Jago News.

He said, a Teknaf-bound truck hit the auto-rickshaw around 10am, leaving one person dead on the spot and four others injured. Later, three others also died on the way to the hospital.

Dr Mohiuddin Mohin, Resident Medical Officer of Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex, said four of the five people, who were taken to the hospital, were dead. Another critically injured is receiving treatment from here. 

Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said being informed, a police team sent to the spot. The process is on to send the bodies to the hospital morgue.
