EC decides to take army assistance in national elections
The Election Commission (EC) has decided to take the assistance of the army in the next general elections to maintain law and order but it does not want to give any judicial power to the force.
"We have decided to take the help from the army in the next elections and will propose to the government for the army's assistance," Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said.
The EC said this to the reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital of Dhaka's Agargaon area on Thursday.
The army members will be as a standing force or petrol during polls and technical assistants in the operation of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) but they won't be given judicial power, he said.
