Suspended GCC Mayor Jahangir gets bail in 7 cases
The High Court (HC) has granted an anticipatory bail to suspended Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Jahangir Alam in seven cases filed for his derogatory remarks about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the great Liberation War.
He got the bail on August 4, but the concerned source of the HC confirmed the matter on Monday.
A HC bench of Justice Mostofa Jaman Islam and Justice Md Selim granted the bail to him.
On November 25 last year, a case was filed against Jahangir with Madaripur court. Madaripur Lawyers’ Association General Secretary and the district Awami League Law Affairs Secretary Babul Akhter filed the case against him.
Earlier, several cases were filed against him in different parts of the country including Rajbari, Gazipur, Naogaon, Gopalganj, Panchagarh.
On November 19, the Awami League expelled its Gazipur city unit general secretary and GCC mayor Jahangir from his position in the party for his derogatory remarks.
On November 25, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Co-operatives suspended GCC Mayor Jahangir, six days after his expulsion from Awami League.
