Verdict on Tarique’s money laundering case Thursday

The High Court is set to deliver the verdict on an appeal against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman’s acquittal from money laundering charges.

Also, verdict of the appeal plea filed by Tarique’s friend Giasuddin Al Mamun, against his conviction that sentenced him to seven years in the case, will be delivered.

The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain will deliver the verdict.

On December 5, 2013, the ACC moved to the High Court against the verdict while Mamun also challenged it.

Later, on January 19, 2014, the HC accepted the ACC’s appeal and ordered the BNP leader to surrender.

The trial was conducted in absentia as Tarique has not returned to Bangladesh from London since he left the country ostensibly for medical treatment.
