5 JMB militants sentenced to death in Chattogram
A Chattogram court has sentenced five Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants to death in a case filed for bombings at two mosques inside Bangladesh Navy’s Issa Khan Base in Chattogram in 2015.
Chattogram Anti-Terrorism Tribunal Judge Abdul Halim passed the order on Wednesday.
The death row convicts are Abdul Mannan, Ramjan Ali, Bablu Rahman Roni, Abdul Gaffar and former Navy member M Sakhawat Hossain. Of them, Sakhawat is absconding.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
Public Prosecutor Monoranjan Das confirmed the matter to Jago News.
On December 18, 2015, 24 Muslim devotees were injured when a number of bombs exploded at the two mosques.
On September 3, 2016, M Abu Syed, Marshal Commander of the Naval Provost of the Bangladesh Navy, filed a case under the Explosives Act with EPZ Police Station.
On October 15, 2017, Muhammad Osman Gani, the then Inspector of the police station, submitted a charge sheet against the five JMB men.
On January 28, 2020, the court framed charges against the accused in the case.
