Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has increased the fare for its ferry, and passenger ship services by 20 percent and 30 percent respectively amid the fuel price hike.

The raised fares will come into effect from Thursday (August 18), BIWTC director (commerce) SM Ashiquzzaman confirmed to Jago News on Tuesday.

"The fare of our ferries and ships have been adjusted following a rise in fuel oil prices. This will come into effect from August 18," he said.

Earlier, the corporation increased the fare for its ferries and passenger ships by 20 percent with effect from June 19.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Shipping hiked the fare of launch by 30 percent in view of the recent fuel price rise.
