Uttara crane accident: Case filed against operator, contracting company
A case has been filed in connection with the crane accident in the capital’s Uttara that killed five passengers of a private car.
Md Afran Mondol Babu, brother of the deceased Fahima Akter and Jharna Akter, filed the case against the crane operator, contracting company and other concerned people with Uttara Paschim Police Station on Monday night. The case number is 42.
Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said brother of the two deceased filed the case accusing the crane operator, contracting company and other concerned people for their negligence.
It is to be noted that, five persons, including two children, were killed as a girder of under-construction Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project collapsed on a private car in front of the Paradise Tower in Uttara 3 No. sector on Monday afternoon.
They were returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Dhaka.
The deceased are Rubel, 50, Jharna, 28, Fahima, Jannat, 6 and Jakaria.
They were crushed under the girder that fell when it was being moved by a crane.
The newly-wed couple Hridoy, 26 and Ria Moni, 21, who were also critically injured in the accident, are receiving treatment at Uttara Crescent Hospital.
However, the Road Transport and Highways Department formed a five-member committee over the accident. Secretary of the department A B M Amin Ullah Nuri confirmed the matter to Jago News.
