Tea garden workers begin indefinite strike
Bangladesh Cha Shramik Union (BCSU), an organisation of the tea garden workers, went on an indefinite strike from Saturday morning, demanding an increase in their daily wages.
The strike started at 6am.
BCSU’s Sylhet Valley President Raju Goala confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said the divisional labour department arranged a conciliation meeting on Thursday to settle the issue, but none of the tea garden owners didn’t attend. Later, the meeting ended without taking any decision. Hence, the workers of all tea gardens started the strike across the country from today.
He also said, we have been protesting since August 8 to increase our daily salary to Tk 300 from Tk 120. We are observing sit-in programme near Sylhet airport road at Lakkatora area as our demand is not met.
