The High Court (HC) has wanted to know why the government did not seek any information of Bangladeshis who have bank accounts in the Swiss Banks.

An HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat on Thursday issued a suo moto rule in this regard.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the state were asked to inform the HC by Sunday.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC in the court while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Nathalie Chuard said that the government of Bangladesh did not make any request for bank account information of any individuals from the country depositing money in the Swiss banks.

It is to be noted that, the funds deposited by Bangladeshi clients in the banks of Switzerland increased by nearly 55 percent to 871.11 million Swiss francs year-on-year in 2021 when the world was trying to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
