6 killed in Comilla road crash

At least six people were killed and five others injured at Nandanpur area under Comilla Sadar on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway here early Monday morning.

Police and Fire Service officials said, the accident occurred at Nandanpur area on the highway at about 2pm when Dhaka bound truck turned turtle there as its driver lost control over the steering. As a result, five people died on the spot and five others injured, two of the critically.

Police said the victims were boarded on a Dhaka bound truck from Comilla to go to their near and dear ones at Gobindaganj in Gaibandha district.

On hearing the accidents Highway police and local fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered six bodies from under the truck. They also rescued the injured persons and took them to hospital.

The injured persons identified the deceased as Shahin Miah, 36, Fazlul Huq, 40, Zahidul Islam, 40, Aman, 38, Shafiqul Islam, 28 and Jeru Miah30.

Police recovered the truck and filed a case with Comilla Highway Thana in this connection.
