Tajia procession brought out amid tight security
Members of Shia community on Tuesday brought out a Tajia procession from Hussaini Dalan in the old part of Dhaka on the occasion of holy Ashura amid tight security measures taken by the law enforcement agencies.
The traditional procession started at 10am. Later, it paraded different streets in the city including Azimpur, Nilkhet, New Market, Science Lab, Jigatola and ended in Dhanmandi-2.
The people, who took part in the procession, were seen carrying flags and banners commemorating the Karbala tragedy in which Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) embraced martyrdom.
Apart from the main procession, Shia community people also brought out several other Tajia processions in different parts of the city.
On this day in the Hijri year of 61, Hazrat Imam, grandson of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), along with his family members and 72 followers embraced martyrdom in the hands of soldiers of Yazid at Karbala desert for the supremacy of justice and righteousness.
The day is a public holiday.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.
Adequate security measures have been taken around Hussaini Dalan to ensure smooth observance of Ashura.
Like previous years, nobody carrying bags, sharp weapons or flammable objects were allowed to enter the venues of Holy Ashura programmes.
