Bus fares rise by 35 paisa per km in cities
The government has increased the fares of intra-city, and long-haul buses by 35, and 40 paisa respectively, a day after it had raised the prices of fuel oil.
As a result, the fares of buses, and mini-buses in cities rose to Tk 2.50 and Tk 2.40 per kilometer respectively while the prices of buses on long-route increased to Tk 2.20.
The same was Tk 2.15, and Tk 2.10 for city buses and mini-buses respectively while Tk 1.80 for long-haul buses.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) took the decision in a meeting with the stakeholders at Banani in the capital of Dhaka on Saturday night.
Presided over by BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary A B M Amin Ullah Nuri and Road Transport Owners Association Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah, among others, attended the meeting.
Earlier on Friday night, the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources raised the prices of fuel oil citing an increase in the international market.
The ministry increased prices of diesel, and kerosene by Tk 34 to 114 per liter respectively, octane by 46 to 135 per liter, and petrol by 44 to 130 per liter.
