Robbery, gang-rape on bus: Main accused arrested

Detective police have arrested the main accused over the robbery and gang-rape on a moving bus at Madhupur in Tangail.

The arrestee was identified as Raja Miah, son of Harun-or-Rashid, of Bolla village at Kalihati upazila of the district. 

He was arrested from Tangail’s new bus terminal area early Thursday. 

He lived in new bus stand area of the town and used to drive bus on Dhaka-Tangail highway occasionally.

Tangail Police Superintendent Sarkar Mohammad Kaisar confirmed the matter to Jago News.

He said several drives were conducted in different areas after the incident. He (Raja) was arrested and the process is on to arrest the rest. 

It is to be noted that, a bus of Eagle Paribahan with 30-35 passengers was going to Dhaka from Kushtia. A group of robbers boarded the bus when it made a stopover at a hotel in Sirajganj. Later, they raped a female passenger after looting mobiles, cash money and ornaments from other passengers of the bus in Tangail on Tuesday night.
