Govt wants to increase capacity of police: Home Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the government wants to increase the capacity of police by making it modern as the force have to face many challenges.
He said this in the 18th board meeting of police held at Police Staff College at Mirpur in the capital of Dhaka on Tuesday.
"Police have to face many challenges. If they are not properly trained, it will be difficult to maintain law and order," Kamal said.
The Minister said there is no alternative to increasing the capacity of the police members to overcome newer challenges in maintaining law and order.
In this case, Police Staff College has an important role, he added.
Police have been lauded at home and abroad for their role in combating militancy and terrorism in the country, he said.
Home Minister Kamal laid importance on signing the memorandum of understanding with well-known universities of different countries to train up police.
"Police have to be prepared to overcome any challenge through training up them," he said.
Md Akhter Hossain, senior secretary of Public Security Division of Home Ministry, Dr Benazir Ahmed, inspector general of police (IGP), Fatima Yasmin, senior secretary of Finance Ministry, and rector of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC), among others, were present at the meeting.
