Three get life for gang-raping child

A court in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday convicted three people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for gang-raping a child in 2003.

The lifers are Nurul Alam, Helal Uddin, and Momtaz Mia, residents of Leda area in Teknaf upazila. All the convicted are on the run.

Cox's Bazar Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 judge Md Abdur Rahim handed down the verdict.

The judge also fined Tk 1 lakh each lifer and in default, they will have to serve in jail for six more months.

Another accused, Nur Mohammad, was acquitted of the charges as he had passed away.

Special public prosecutor advocate Ekramul Huda confirmed the matter.

The case statement said the convicted took the child to a lonely place in Leda area on April 5, 2003 and violated her when she was returning home from a hill after collecting wood.  

The pedestrians took her to a hospital, and her father, later, lodged a case in this connection.
