BCL leader stabbed dead in 'revenge attack'

A local Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader has been stabbed to death in a 'revenge attack' in Cox's Bazar.

Deceased Imon Hasan, 18, was the joint general secretary of Ward No. 4 under Cox's Bazar municipality and son of Md Hasan, a resident of East Mokterkul under Jhilanga union in Sadar upazila.

Family members and police said Abdullah Khan, a resident of Peshkarpara of the municipality, and some of his companions stabbed Imon in front of Boro Bazar Salam Market in the municipality around 11:30 on Thursday to take revenge for an event three years back.

He was rushed to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital and later, shifted him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries early Friday.

According to the family members and police, Imon and some of his companions stabbed Abdullah Khan in an altercation during a waz mahfil at Baitush Sharf Masjid at Boillapara in the district town three years ago.
