398 killed in road accidents during Eid journey
As many as 398 people were killed and 774 others injured in 319 road accidents in 15 days (July 3- July 17) across the country during Eid-ul-Azha journey.
During the same period, a total of 25 people were killed and two others injured in 25 railways accidents.
Apart from, 17 people were also killed, 15 injured and three others went missing in 10 waterways accidents during Eid journey.
Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti, said this at a press conference at Sagar-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital’s Segunbagicha at 11:30am on Tuesday.
A total of 131 people died in 113 motorcycle accidents, which is 35.42 percent of the total fatalities, he said.
He said, this year, around 1.2 crore people left Dhaka during the festival and a total of around four crore people moved from one district to another, he said.
Former caretaker government advisor and Safe Road and Transport Alliance President Dr Hussain Zillur, BUET Accidents Research Institute’s Assistant Professor Kazi Md Saifun Newaz and Uttara Motors’ Chief Operating Officer Md Shahdat Hossain were present among others during this time.
