Humayun Ahmed’s 4th death anniversary today

The 4th death anniversary of noted fiction writer and filmmaker Humayun is being observed on Tuesday.

To remember the legend in an appropriate manner, different cultural organisations and TV channels have chalked out various programmes to make the entire day only for Humayun.

Himu Paribahan, an organisation named after his creation ‘Himu’, will distribute leaflets to raise awareness of deadly disease cancer besides holding seminar, essay and art competitions, Milad Mahfil, drama and movie screening.

The activists of the organization, men wearing yellow Panjabi and women clad in blue Saree, will also visit the grave yard of the late novelist at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur today.

Born in November 13 1948 in Mymensingh, Humayun Ahmed died on July 19, 2012 at Bellevue Hospital, New York, at the age of 64 after a nine-month battle against colon cancer, bringing the curtain down on an illustrious career of nearly four decades.

His father, Foyzur Rahman Ahmed, a police officer, was killed by Pakistani military force during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. His mother is Ayesha Foyez.

Humayun’s younger brother, Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, a university professor, is also a writer of mostly science fiction genre and a newspaper columnist.

Another brother, Ahsan Habib, is a painter and the editor of Unmad, a cartoon magazine.

The legendary writer was married to Gultekin, granddaughter of Principal Ibrahim Khan, in 1973.

The couple got divorced in 2003. He later married his long time affair, a TV actress, Meher Afroz Shaon; who was friend of his 2nd daughter, Shila.
