The government has issued six directives, including wearing masks and avoiding public gatherings, to prevent the coronavirus surge.   

The Cabinet Division on Tuesday sent letters to the secretaries of all ministries and the divisional commissioners to implement the instructions.

The directives are:

  1. To request the mass media to inspire people to maintain coronavirus health guidelines;
  2. To make wearing masks in all cases mandatory, enforce the 'no masks no service' policy, maintain social distancing and avoid public gatherings as much as possible;
  3. To wear masks at worshipping places (such as mosques, temples, churches, etc.) and maintain social distancing;
  4. To encourage people to test COVID-19 if they suffer from fever, cold, cough or they see any other COVID symptoms;
  5. To make it mandatory for all to wear masks at shops, shopping malls, bazaars, and hotel-restaurant, and in non-compliance, take legal punishment and
  6. To make people aware of maintaining health rules and wearing masks by imams of all mosques.

In a press release, the Directorate General of Health Services today said 2,087 people contracted coronavirus and three people died from the virus in the last 24 hours.

With this, the country's total infections rose to 19,69,361 and the deaths to 29,145.
