Jago News journo Shirazuzzaman attacked in Tejgaon

Jago News’ Senior Reporter Shirazuzzaman Helala, who covers the Sangsad Secretariat and the Election Commission, has been attacked by 4-5 people at Tejgaon truck stand area in the capital.

The incident took place around 2:30pm on Saturday. 

He filed a written complaint with Tejgaon Industrial Police Station.    

Shirazuzzaman said the attackers obstructed his way when he was going to Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban via Tejgaon Satrasta by a motorcycle. After knowing his journalist's identity, they took him beside a truck and beat him mercilessly. They also tried to strangle him.

He also said they snatched Tk 3000 and a journalist's identity card from his possession.

After the incident, he went to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for taking medical treatment. Ten stitches were given on his lips and he also got injuries in his chest, head and knee.

In this connection, Kazi Abul Kalam Azad, Officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, said the victim journalist came to the police station and filed a written complaint. Police are trying investigation and legal action will be taken after collecting CCTV footage from the spot.  

It is to be noted, Shirazuzzaman has been covering the Sangsad Secretariat, Election Commission and ICT for long. He is the treasurer of Mymensingh Reporters Forum. He is also the member and joint general secretary of Parliament Journalists Association Election Committee and Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy respectively.
