Flood situation worsens in Sylhet, army deployed
The flood situation in Sylhet district has worsened, leaving thousands of people marooned.
The army members were deployed there on Friday to rescue the people who were trapped in the floods.
Earlier this morning, Deputy Commissioner Md Mojibur Rahman said the administration was cordially working to overcome the flood situation.
And it asked the people whose houses were inundated to go to shelter centers and safer places, he said.
Relief distribution activities were going on and the army will soon start the rescue operation, he added.
The sources in Water Development Board, Sylhet said water in two points of Surma River and one point of Kushiara River was flowing over the danger mark at around 6 am. Besides, the water of the other rivers in the district kept rising.
Local administration, public representatives, and affected people said two areas of Sylhet city and more than 600 villages in different upazilas of the district were flooded, leaving at least 10 lakh people marooned.
