Cumilla City polls end amid peaceful atmosphere
Voting in Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) election has ended amid a peaceful atmosphere.
Now, vote counting is underway.
Earlier, the voting began at 8 am on Wednesday and ended at 4 pm without any break.
A total of 2,29,920 voters were supposed to exercise their voting right through the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in 105 centers. There were 640 booths in 105 polling stations.
It is the third election for the former mayor and independent candidate Monirul Haque Sakku for mayor, who was expelled from BNP for participating in the election against the party decision and the first election for Awami League candidate Arfanul Haque Rifat for the office.
Five candidates for mayor, 106 for councilors, and 36 for reserved seats for women councilors were contesting in the city polls.
There are 27 wards and nine reserved seats for women in the city corporation.
The last CCC election was held on Mar 30, 2017. The elected representatives took office on May 17 of that year. Their terms will end on May 16 of this year.
