'Sound pollution clear human rights violation'

Sound pollution is a clear violation of human rights, an expert has opined, suggesting coordinated efforts to resolve the problem.

Dr Mostafizur Rahman, associate professor of the Environmental Sciences Department of Jahangirnagar University, said this in a round table meeting titled 'Adverse impact and remedy of sound pollution' at the office of online news portal Jago News in the capital of Dhaka on Saturday.

Mentioning that construction works are also responsible for sound pollution, he said, "This problem can be solved by making mass people awarned and coordinating efforts with all the stakeholders."

Jago News Acting Editor KM Ziaul Haque gave a welcome speech and the online news portal's Deputy Editor Dr Harun Rashid conducted the program.

Speakers at the meeting said sound pollution not only affects our hearing but it has a huge effect on mental situation, too.

Besides adult people, children are being badly affected physically and mentally by the environmental noise, they added.

Dr Mamun Al Mahtab Shwapnil, professor of Hematology Department of Bangbandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), said it is not possible to resolve the problem by making law but responsibility and awareness of all are crucial.
