Nine firefighters killed in Sitakunda container depot fire

Nine personnel of Fire Service and Civil Defence were killed in a massive fire at a container depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district. 

Among them, eight were identified as firefighter Md Rana from Manikganj, nursing attendant Moniruzzaman from Cumilla, firefighter Alauddin from Noakhali, Md Shakil Tarafder, and leader Mithu Dewan from Rangamati, who worked at Kumira Fire Station while leader Nipon Chakma from Rangamati, firefighter Ramzanul Islam from Sherpur, and firefighter Salauddin Quader Chowdhury from Feni, who worked at Sitakunda Fire Station.

Four fire extinguishers went missing.

Besides, 15 more firefighters received injuries in the fire and they were, later, admitted to Combined Military Hospital, Chattogram. Of them, critically injured two were airlifted to Dhaka for better treatment.

Brigadier Md Main Uddin, director-general of Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the matter on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday night, a devastating fire broke out at BM Container Depot, leaving 49 people dead, so far, and several others hurt.
