BGB vehicle vandalised, cop motorcycles torched in Dhaka

Some garment factory workers vandalised a vehicle of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and torched two motorcycles of police at Mirpur in the capital of Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place in front of Shaheed Sohrawardy Indoor Stadium around 5:30 pm, Md Mahbub, additional deputy police commissioner ADC) of Mirpur zone, confirmed to Jago News.

About this, Pallabi Police Station inspector (investigation) Md Asad told Jago News that some factory workers staged a demonstration in Mirpur area this morning demanding pay hike.

Laborers of some other factories blocked road this afternoon and they vandalised an empty vehicle of BGB and burned two motorcycles of police after the blockade programme, he said.

Later, several people were detained in this connection, ADC Mahbub added.

Earlier, the garment factory workers staged demonstrations and blocked road in Mirpur area saying that they are unable to meet the costs of living due to an unusual rise in the prices of daily essentials.

They sought the government to increase salaries or decrease commodity prices.
