Jamalpur verdict: 3 to die, 5 get life term

The International Crimes Tribunal on Monday delivered death penalty for three people and life imprisonment for five who have been accused of committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

All accused are inhabitants of the Jamalpur district.

The accused who were awarded death penalty are Md Ashraf Hossain, Md Abdul Mannan and Md Abdul Bari. They are run away.

Apart from the accused who have been awarded life imprisonment are Advocate Shamsul Alam, SM Yousuf Ali, Professor Sharif Ahmed alias Sharif Hosen, Md. Harun and Md. Abul Kashem.

All of them, except Shamsul and Ali, are absconding.

On October 26 last year, the tribunal framed the five charges and the prosecution produced 25 witnesses, including the case`s investigation officer, and some documentary evidence. The defense declined to produce any witness.
