Ex-OC Pradeep’s wife Chumki surrenders, sent to jail
Suspended officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das’s wife Chumki Karon has surrendered before a lower court in a case filed for allegedly amassing illegal wealth and siphoning off money.
She surrendered before the court of Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Abdul Majid and sought bail on Monday.
After a hearing, the court denied her bail and sent her to jail.
Advocate Sakib, an assistant of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s lawyer Mahmudul Haque, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
On August 23, 2020, ACC Assistant Director Riaz Uddin filed the case with the Commission’s Integrated District Office Chattogram-2.
The national anti-graft watchdog found that Pradeep and his wife accumulated wealth worth over Taka 3.95 crore beyond their known sources of income.
On July 26, 2021, after the investigation, Riaz Uddin submitted a charge sheet against them to the court.
On December 15, last year, the court framed charges against them in the case.
On 31 July, 2020, Major (retd) Sinha Rashed Khan was shot dead by police at the Baharchhara check-post in Teknaf. On 5 August, his sister Sharmin Shahria Ferdous filed a case for his murder with the Cox's Bazar Judicial Magistrate's Court, against Pradeep and nine others. OC Pradeep is currently in prison in connection with the case.
