No info about PK Halder has come formally: Home Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said no information about Prashanta Kumar Halder alias PK Halder, who was arrested in India, has come formally.
He said this at a seminar on Sheikh Hasina’s home coming day at National Press Club at 11am on Sunday. Bangladesh Progressive Columnists Forum organized the seminar.
The Home Minister said, we have known that PK Halder was arrested but nothing has come to us formally. We will take legal step in this regard.
Mentioning that PK Halder is a wanted person in Bangladesh, Kamal said we have been seeking him through Interpol for a long time. He is arrested.
On Saturday morning, fugitive Bangladeshi businessman and former NRB Global Bank Managing Director Proshanta Kumar Halder alias PK Halder, along with five others, were arrested in Ashoknagar of the Indian state of West Bengal.
PK Halder and his other associates are accused in a multi-million financial fraud in Bangladesh. They have embezzled thousands of crores of Bangladeshi Taka and siphoned them off to India amongst other countries.
On March 1 last year, PK Halder fled Bangladesh through Jashore’s Benapole land port.
In January 2021, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed five cases against 33 people, including Halder, for allegedly laundering over Tk 350 crore of International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL).
He had laundered about Tk 80 crore to Canada and amassed about Tk 426 crore beyond his known sources of income.
