Ahsanullah murder case: acquittal for 11 upheld
Supreme Court Appellate Division has upheld a High Court order that acquitted 11 accused in AL lawmaker Ahsanullah Master Murder case.
A bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order after hearing on a petition filed by the state on Sunday.
On June 15, HC upheld the death penalty of six killers of popular labor leader and also former Gazipur lawmaker Ahsanullah Master.
Ahsanullah, a popular politician of Tongi and AL MP from Gazipur, was gunned down on May 7, 2004, during his address to a local conference at the Noagaon MA Majid Mia High School ground, near his home. A schoolboy was also killed in the gun attack.
A Speedy Trial Tribunal on April 16, 2005 sentenced 22 people, including BNP leader Nurul Islam Sarkar, to death and six others to life imprisonment in the murder case.
