New Market clash: 3 arrested from Shariatpur, Cox’s Bazar
Three people have been arrested from Shariatpur and Cox’s Bazar over the clashes between Dhaka College students and the traders in the capital’s New Market area.
Khandaker Al Moeen, Legal and Media Wing Director of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), confirmed the matter on Thursday but he didn’t discloses the names of the people.
He said they conducted several drives at Shariatpur and Cox’s Bazar and arrested the people on Wednesday night.
Further details regarding them will be disclosed at a press conference at RAB Media Centre today, he added.
On midnight of April 18, Dhaka College students clashed with the New market traders and it lasted for around 2:30hours. Later, they again engaged in clash after 10am on April 19.
Two people were killed and more than fifty people also injured in the clashes. The deceased are Nahid and Mursalin.
Later, police filed two cases against 1,200 including traders and students.
Apart from, Nahid’s father Md Nadim Hossain and Mursalin’s brother Nur Mohammad filed two murder cases with New Market Police Station. Around 1,400 unnamed people were accused in the cases.
