‘No decision taken to reopen shops in New Market’
All shops and markets have been closed in the capital’s New Market area since Tuesday morning following the clash between the students of Dhaka College and the traders.
“No decision was taken yet to reopen the shops. We are observing the matter. The shops will be reopened after the situation becomes normal,” New Market Shop Owners Association President Aminul Islam Shahin told Jago News on Wednesday.
He said, “We talked with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday. He said to reopen the market after the situation becomes normal. Now, we shop owners will hold a meeting and the next decision will be informed later.”
It is to be noted that Dhaka College students clashed with New Market traders around 12pm on Monday. Later, the clash also ensued between them after 10am on Tuesday and it continued till evening.
A youth named Nahid was killed and more than fifty people were also injured in the clash and some of them are in critical condition.
