Dhaka College students clash with New Market traders again
A clash erupted between the Dhaka College students and the New Market traders again in the capital’s New Market area on Tuesday morning.
The clash started after 10am.
Police opened tear shells to take the situation under control.
Later, the students took the position at the college gate and the traders took the position in front of the Chandrima Super Market.
Earlier, the students blocked the road from Science Lab to Nilkhet. Consequently, the vehicular movement was suspended in the area.
The clash started after the students’ road block.
More than thirty students were injured in the clash so far, said Dhaka College Teachers’ Council Secretary Dr Md Abdul Kuddus Shikder.
The traders claimed that more than ten of them were injured.
Apart from, two journalists were also injured while discharging their duty in the area.
They are Deepto TV reporter Asif Sumit and SA TV cameraperson Kabir Hossain.
Some New Market shop staffs alleged that the students vandalized shops and CCTV cameras.
On Monday night, the students clashed with the traders in the New Market area and it lasted for 2:30hours.
However, the reason of the clash is still not clear. Following the clash, Dhaka College authority postponed all classes and exams of Tuesday.
